COBRA PREMIUM ASSISTANCE EXTENSION NOTICES
Issued by the Department of Labor
Janurary 2010
The Department of Labor has issued the Updated General Notice and Premium Assistance Extension Notice to be provided to assistance eligible individuals (i.e. all qualified beneficiaries not just covered employees) with regard to the extension of the COBRA premium assistance originally provided by ARRA.
The extension signed into law on December 19, 2009, requires that these new or updated notices be provided by February 17, 2010 or for individuals in a “transition period” (the period that begins immediately after the initial 9-month assistance period prior to the extension) within 60 days after the first day of the individual’s transition period (e.g. as early as January 30, 2010, depending on when the individual initially became eligible for assistance).
