Saint Cloud Airport Expansion

The City of St. Cloud recently announced plans to expand the St. Cloud Airport. The City has begun negotiating with landowners in the proposed expansion area to acquire property, or in some cases easements.

Phase I of the project is the expansion of the cross-wind runway that currently exists. This includes the acquisition of additional safety zones. Phase II of the project is the construction of a parallel runway southwest of the existing main runway. Phase II includes acquisiton of property for the runway and corresponding safety zones.

The City's current time line for completion of Phase I of the expansion is 2013. Completion of Phase II will follow approximately 5 years after the completion of Phase I. However, the time lines are dependent on funding. The City has indicated that it wishes to complete the property acquistions for both phases within the next three years. The City has stated that it will exercise its eminent domain authority to acquire properties from owners who are unwilling to sell.
